Programme Change

Unfortunately, due to ill health, Lynne Hackles will no longer be speaking at our meeting on 6th April. In her place, we will be given a talk by Andrew Brammer.

Andrew is a local and national award-winning storyteller and public speaker, who will be talking to us about Writing Humour Based On Personal Experiences. During the meeting, we will also be getting a taste of Andrew's tall tales. The storyteller's tall tales have proven so popular that, within the last year, he has sold out 3 shows at The King Of Hearts.

For information on this year's programme, please go here.

Write Here Right Now

This evening, at The Assembly House, we held one of our regular Manuscript Evenings.

Tonight gave the opportunity for both Circle members and visitors read their work aloud in front of our welcoming group. The wide variety of work read aloud included a children's tale, a humorous short story and a chapter from a science fiction novel. Each reading then lead to everyone being involved in a variety of interesting and engaging discussions.

We also saw several new members join our writing group.

The next Writers' Circle meeting, on 2nd March, will be a talk by writer and photographer John Worrall on Illustrated Features.

We hope to see you next time.

Esther Morgan's Brief Encounters

Following her visit to us last November, noted poet Esther Morgan returned to Norwich Writers' Circle this evening to adjudicate our in-house Competition Two.

Competition Two gave Circle members the opportunity to write a poem, a maximum of 40 lines long, on the theme of 'Encounters'.

Esther commented on the range, variety and ambition of our competition entries, which included encounters with newborns, ghosts and the recently deceased. The Norfolk based poet also added that the record-breaking 19 entries were a really good set to read and it was difficult deciding the winners.

It was decided that due to the quality of our poems, that there would be 2 commendations alongside the 3 winning entries.

The competiton winners were:

1st
If You Can See Me, Don't Speak
by Lyn Fountain

2nd
Evening Encounter
by Elizabeth Bencze

3rd
Encounters With Granddad
by Andrew Heron

Commendation
Gillian In The Midnight Garden
by Nicolette King

Commendation
Sunday Lunch At Bath
by Margaret Turner

Our next meeting on 16th February is another one of our popular Manuscript Evenings.

The 16th is also the closing date for our Annual Open Poetry Competition. We are hoping that all the entries featured in tonight's competition have also been entered into the OPC.
